St.Joseph's College, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and along with the rural community of Yagapudayanpatti was jointly organised the inaugural ceremony of Installation of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
The Extension Department - SHEPHERD of St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Government of India, New Delhi, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) as the Regional Coordinating Institute (RCI) of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and along with the rural community of Yagapudayanpatti was jointly organised the inaugural ceremony of Installation of Vertical Axis Wind Turbine on 19th September, 2025 at Yagapudayanpatti village, Manikandam Block. Globally, the excessive use of fossil fuels has led to increased levels of greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change and negatively impact all living beings. To address this issue, the installation of a Vertical Axis Wind Turbine aims to promote scientific and technological awareness among rural people and school students, while also contributing to environmental conservation by providing clean, renewable energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. This vertical axis wind turbine produces 500 kilowatt of electricity, which will be used to light up the village’s public stage for children’s evening educational activities and cultural programs. Excess electricity is stored in the batteries. The project cost is estimated at 1 lakh rupees. With contributions from the college administration and the local community, the total expenditure for the project amounts to approximately 1.25 lakh rupees. Third-year Computer Science students from the college assisted in implementing the project. Rev. Dr. S. Mariadoss SJ, Principal delivered a special address. Mr. S. Lawrence, Village Leader, Yagapudayanpatti, Mr. S. Arokiyasamy, Former President, Alunthur Panchayat along with other dignitaries played key roles. Rev. Dr. T. Sahayaraj SJ, Director, Extension Department – SHEPHERD, Rev. Fr. A. Antonysamy, Parish Priest, Nagamangalam, Prof. S. Dominique, Assistant Professor and UBA – Coordinator, Dr. A. Alexandar, Assistant Professor felicitated. C. Jeyachandran, Senior Coordinator, Extension Department – SHEPHERD and UBA Assistant Coordinator welcome the gathering and Mr. A. Richerd, Yagapudayanpatti gave vote of thanks. Mr. S. Jeyaseelan, Mrs. H. Yasodai, Mr. D. Suthagar, Junior Coordinators and Mr. P. Amaleswaran, Office Assistant were participated. Over 250 villagers, school and college students, and officials participated with enthusiasm, making the event a grand success.
